Today’s the big day as the XING Android App is now available for use with any smartphone. Version 1.0 of the app offers Android phone users simple mobile access to XING’s key features while also making it easy to call up contacts’ profile data right from the device’s home screen.

Overview of available features

Users of the free app have access to a general overview of information from XING’s “What’s new in your network” section while also being able to post status updates to keep their network up to date in the event of a delay or a trade fair visit, for example. Users can also see who visited their profile, read messages in their XING inbox and then reply to them, and of course browse sent messages.

On top of this, users can call up their personal contacts’ profiles which provide all the key information they need when on the move. This means that all available address and telephone data is directly accessible via the app, and contacts can of course be imported into the address book. A quick search feature is also available in the mobile version, as well as the option to send contact requests after finding someone registered on XING.

Widget brings XING contacts to your home screen

It’s really easy for anyone with an Android device running version 2.0 or higher to view their XING contacts on their home screen. A “live folder” allows users to scroll through all of their XING contacts and call up their contact data, meaning that they can quickly look up their telephone number if it’s available and then give them a call. The XING Android App requires Android version 1.6 or higher to be installed on the device.

We will be expanding our mobile offering over the next few months, and rely on your feedback to make sure that we can add the features and improvements you want and need. To do so, just use our feedback form or post a comment here in our blog.

Is it for Android only? It seems useful and functional apps should be available on all major smartphone platforms.
